About Founded & Forward

Founded & Forward is an independent, plain-language guide to the ideas America was founded on (the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, self-government and free markets) and to what has worked over 250 years.

What we believe

We're hopeful about America. We believe its founding principles have widened freedom and opportunity for more and more people over time. That work is still unfinished, and it is worth continuing.

How we write

• Primary sources first, and official data with dates.
• Fair to all. We state other views honestly and never mock anyone.
• Plain language for teens and adults of every background.
• Public corrections when we get something wrong.

Faith

We discuss faith where it is part of the historical record, for example the Declaration's references to a Creator, and we quote the original sources.
